Helping loved ones who need the most changes in their home environment with simple design solutions. These plans can dramatically improve the lighting, colors and furniture arrangement to make their home more beautiful, inviting and safe.

Lighting, color and space planning are the key to Independent Living with Low Vision. Once it was done, my client turned and said to me, “You don’t just provide a service, you change people’s lives.” Design can change your life too. I have been picking color, changing lighting and moving furniture around for my whole life. Lately, it has more meaning. My mother has Low Vision. Making changes for her has made her place safer. My sister has helped people with Low Vision for over a decade now in her Occupational Therapy practice. She changes people’s habits, I change people’s habitat. Why not make your space as beautiful as it is safe?

Michelle Molloy, founder of Penates Design, has remodeled and redesigned homes for over 14 years. Each unique client has experienced Michelle’s “soul satisfying” approach to design. Warmth and familiarity are essential to the changes needed in each transition of life. Michelle brings fresh ideas in a structured design to create a home that supports their daily living activities. She has experience coordinating interior projects from small residential to major light commercial facilities planning. She has over 25 years’ experience as a Professional Interior Designer with NCIDQ accreditation, and background lighting design and in Environmental Textiles and Design as well as Family Studies and Child Development.

 TESTIMONIALS

About the Interior Design Service:

“We had never worked with an interior designer before, and had no idea what to expect…Michelle transformed an apartment unit into a home.  It is amazing how well the studio has come together, and what a difference this makes on a daily basis for my sister. She is so proud of her new home and constantly wants to “show it off” to other people. The design layout simplifies my sister’s life… all of these design features have helped my sister adapt readily to this new environment.” Sister Team

“We were moving my mother from upstate New York into a small studio apartment in a senior housing facility. Her move was successfully implemented in less than two months! My mother is thrilled with her new home. She has plenty of storage space, her apartment is cozy and welcoming, and she is always happy to invite people into her space…Your expertise in colors, lighting and furniture considerations for low vision clients was invaluable. Also, your attention to detail and subsequent follow-through were greatly appreciated.”  Daughter Team

About Kitchen Remodels:

"It's so great to work with a designer. You get exactly what you want instead of what you think you're going to get but don't in the end." The Senior Who Loves to Cook for Friends and Family

“The kitchen colors are a great choice with the granite, an awesome choice. I tell everyone I totally ignore my living room and dining room since my kitchen was remodeled…” The Pasta Chef

“We got everything we needed in the small confines of our old house. The multiple ideas lead to the best kitchen plan for us. We are so happy with it. Thanks for your great ideas!” The Owners of a 'Not So Big House'

“I just love the bar for the kids’ art projects and for eating. My favorite thing is all the counter space for different cooking stations. I’ve had five cooks in the kitchen at once and managed nicely! People gather in the dining room at the bar and talk to me while cooking. The double sinks helped tremendously and everyone comments on the great floor.” The Active PTA Mom, Cook, Hostess

"I have so much room in such a small kitchen! It is so comfortable it has become the favorite room in the house. The seating are is wonderful and the look is so warm and comfortable.” The Organic Gardener

“It’s not just about fitting appliances in anymore. There is so much more counter space that 3 kids sat at the breakfast bar. It’s so open, you see right through the whole house. It has made the whole house bigger. It’s just great.” The Busy Mom in the Small House

"Your work (on my tiles) was excellent and I would enjoy working with you again." The Single Homeowner

It’s gorgeous and we love it! The lighting layout saved us considerable money from our original lighting plan. It has transformed the feeling of the room. We actually use the room rather then leave it as an over-sized hallway.” The Working Professionals with Kids

I appreciated how she listened to our needs our needs and preferences and then educated us on lighting design, choosing a color palette for the whole house and space planning well suited to our family and lifestyle.” The Family
